[edit] About the site

Hayase! was an art community originally established by AnimeUNSW in 2000 to promote the work of its talented members. Members were encouraged to submit pin-ups, comics and articles to be displayed at university events and online.

Besides promoting submitted work through the Internet, self-published books such as the 2001 and 2002 calendars as well as the 2001 Winter Collection anthology were created to promote the work of club members all over Sydney and interstate. In 2003, Hayase! was split off from AnimeUNSW completely and restarted as a separate entity, spawning a new Community_portal#IRC_Channel and monthly creative social sessions in Sydney.

Regular creative sessions held at the Manga Library and Café in Monash University were started by Craig Norris, taking their inspiration from the Sydney sessions. Another regular meetup, Melbourne Drinking and Drawing, started in early 2007.

Hayase! is now an informal collective and an online presence dedicated to living the Comics Lifestyle.

[edit] About the mascot

Hayase as a character originated from UNSW's 2000 Orientation Week T-shirt design - she shares her name with a spell from the Tales of Phantasia RPG. From then on she became the bona fide AnimeUNSW mascot from 2000 to 2002, appearing on another shirt as well as the club's websites and Christmas party tickets. She now represents site-related activities on all promotional material.
